In this short course, we will be exploring Dyslexia through the lens of community mental health using the simple and practical 3Rs approach - Recognise, Respond and Reflect.
SochCast 1: Recognise Dyslexia
We will explore the concept of developmental disorders, and learn how dyslexia can be distinguished from other developmental disorders. We will learn how dyslexia characteristically presents in the community setting, and what you need to look for to recognise it.
SochCast 2: Respond to Dyslexia
We will empower you with important ways you can respond to the needs of children with dyslexia in your community. We will learn how to refer patients who may have dyslexia for evaluation appropriately, and about the importance of good follow up. Finally, we will discuss the importance of educating, involving and supporting parents and other caregivers of patients with dyslexia.
SochCast 3: Reflect on Dyslexia
Through Reflection, we hope to enrich your learning experience by consolidation and application of what you have learned regarding dyslexia from the community mental health perspective. We will help you revise what you have learned, and guide you to think about how it can be applied in your own context.
